Islanders run Track Record to 4-0

Clairemont dual meet:   
It was a busy week for the Coronado track teams. On Thursday the Islanders hosted Clairemont. Both the boys and girls teams won; the boys easily by the score of 72-53, but the girls had a little scare from a surprisingly strong Clairemont team and won by only 5 points, 63-58. The boys won both relays with Brad Stark, Jason Trueblood, J.P. Huertelou and Brady Fitelson posting a time of 46.4 in the 4x100. Heurtelou was replaced by Brad Munns for the 4x400 relay. Munns also won the 1600, 800 and 3200 meter runs with Jack Harms 2nd in the 1600 and Hugo Vera 3rd in both the 800 and 3200.  Fitelson won the 100 in 11.4 and placed 2nd in the 200. Stark won the 400 and placed 2nd to Clairemont’s ace Hurdler, Jake Symons, in the 300 hurdles. Trueblood placed 3rd in the 100 then took on Symons in the 110 hurdles but placed 2nd to one of the top times in the county this season as Symons blazed to a 14.4 finish.  Reid McLean won the long jump with 19-5, the 200 in 23.6 and placed 2nd in the high jump. Adam Munns won the high jump at 5-10. Jason Meier placed 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump.

  For the girls Nila Heurtelou, Ashlee Houston, Megan Mushovic and Beth Wittry drew first blood in the 4x100. Heurtelou won the 100 in 12.8 and the 200 in 27.4 with Houston placing 3rd in both events, as well as 3rd in the long jump. Mushovic placed 3rd in the triple jump with 30-1. Wittry won the 400 in 62.1 and placed 2nd in the triple jump with 31-7. Katherine Wingert owned the distance events with a hat trick in the 1600, 800 and 3200 meter runs with Caitlin Bigham 3rd in the 1600 and 2nd in the 3200. Jamie Klages finally managed to 3-step the 100 hurdles while winning the event in a near school record time of 16.6. She followed this by winning the 300 hurdles in another fine time of 49.1 and placed 2nd in the high jump, only clearing 4-8, well off her best of 5-2 this year. Christina Coy placed 3rd in both hurdle events. 

Jaguar Invite: 
Two days later at the Jaguar Invitational Katherine Wingert PR’d in the 1600 placing 3rd in 5:24.22. She came back later to place 4th in the 800 in a photo finish. Erin Buss and Caitlin Bigham ran 13:02 and 13:14 in the 3200.  Nila Heurtelou placed 3rd in her 100 heat and won her 200 heat in 27.21. Ashlee Houston placed 3rd in her 100 heat. Beth Wittry placed 3rd in the 400 with 60.42 and hit 31-7 in the triple jump. Wittry now ranks among the top dozen 400 meter runners in the county. Brad Stark won both his 400 and 300 hurdles heats clocking 52.97 and 44.3.  Reid McLean hit 19-8 in the triple jump and 5-8 in the high jump. Brad Munns got boxed-in early in the 800 but still managed to run 2:06.39, an excellent soph time. His twin, Adam Munns, placed 2nd in the high jump with 5-10 and 8th in the triple jump. Jason Meier was 7th in the triple jump. In the girls relay events Houston, Megan Mushovic, Heurtelou and Wittry posted a nice time of 52.55 in the 4x100. The best performance of the day, however, was in the 4x400 with Wingert, Heurtelou, Mushovic and Wittry combining for a time of 4:13.87 for the 3rd fastest time of the day out all heats. This is the 8th fastest time posted county-wide so far this year.
