A few Islander athletes have been competing in some of the early invitationals. At the Mt. Carmel invite Junior Kyle Brown placed third in the triple jump with a 45’ 1” effort against a couple of the best in the state. He’s currently ranked among the top 10 statewide for both the long jump and triple jump. Freshman Sallie Privett placed 10th in the fast heat of the 1600 (the first frosh runner across the finish line) in 5:20.63, only 11 seconds behind the winner. Danielle Eckert tied with several other pole-vaulters behind state leader, Emily Mattoon from Rancho Bernardo, with a vault of 10’ 2”.  Senior Sarah Player used this meet as a training exercise after a hard week of workouts, so she was a bit off of her bests. She placed 6th in her 100 hurdles heat in 17.96, 7th in the Invitational 300 meter hurdles in 48.00, and 5th in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet.
