Bronco Invitational 2014 at Rancho Bernardo High School

It had been some time since we had a group of capable girls take interest in running a fast DMR, but in 2014 this became the favorite race of 4 of the girls who were on the 2013 CIF Cross Country Championship team.
Junior Aeron Yim (1200), Junior Hannah Downey (400), Freshman Kayla Bierschbach (800), and Senior Rachel Steffen (1600) ran a couple of fast times under the old record with the fastest being 13:11.06 at the Bronco Invite..

Balboa Stadium 1988

The previous DMR record was set in 1988 at Balboa Stadium by Lynn Paggett, Page Gushaw, Viviana Reza, and Shamen Dugger. Their time was 13:20.4 for the 2 1/2 mile distance used back then. Converted to the metric standards used today (4000 meters) their time whould have been 13:15.3. Also in 1988 Reza set the mile record with a time of 5:14 and Dugger owned the 2-mile record with a time of 11:22.4. The mile record (converted to a 1600 meter time of 5:12.2) stood until Jessica Lunt brought it down to 5:05.84 in her senior year (1996). Dugger's 2-mile record, now converted to a 3200 meter time of 11:18.68, still stands.
