Donny Couts

It was 22 years since John McRaven set the discus record at the CIF prelims in 2000. In 2022, our first semi-normal season after the Pandemic, I stepped down as head track coach to concentrate on the distance team and Cross Country. The new head coach, Cameron Gary, has a lot of experience (Google Him) and was able to recruit Marcus Gustaveson as our throws coach. Senior Donny Couts had no track experience, but coach Gustaveson was molded him and several others into a pretty competitive group. At the Viking Relays, he also placed second in the shot put, and our female thrower, Tatum Wade, won the girls' discus.

Like many of the past records I don't have an exact mark or year.
However the record was around 1976 and the distance around 127'
The discus became an official California high school event around 1974.
