Coronado

Capturing three events at the Elmer Runge Invitational, the Islanders senior was selected the Female Athlete of the Meet. Player won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.15 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 25.55 – both school records – as well as the 300 hurdles in 46.32.

Obviously this was the season of Sarah Player. At the post season CIF advisory board meeting she was named CIF Division II female track athlete of the year. Not surprisingly she was also the Track Team's MVP and the top senior female athlete of the year (all sports) for Coronado High School.

No Islanders boy had ever earned all-state honors (top-10 finish) until the senior finished eighth at the state cross country championships over the weekend in Fresno. Enowitz, the section Division IV champion, clocked a time of 16 minutes, 11 seconds over the 3.1-mile course.

For Enowitz to be at the top of his sport, it's no surprise to learn he spends hours each day running long distances.

But what might be less expected is how much time he spends sitting behind a desk, tutoring students from elementary to high school in math.

“I love tutoring students,” said Enowitz, who is ranked in the top 1 percent of his class of 250. “I tutor five or six times a week with 12 different students. This has given me the opportunity to help them when they struggle academically.”

Enowitz will take his passion and drive to the East Coast next year, where he plans to attend MIT. Enowitz, who scored 2,170 on the SAT, is considering a major in mathematics or economics.

“(I want to) eventually teach and coach at a university,” he said.

Coming off a solid freshman season, Privett ran away from the frosh-soph division field in the Vaquero Invitational. Her time of 9:28 over the 1.65-mile Lindo Lake course was almost a full minute faster than the second-place finisher in her race and the best overall by four seconds.
