Seniors Jake Ruzevick and Brad Munns easily outdistanced the field in our first dual meet of the season against Clairemont, leaving freshman Ben Enowitz to contend with the Chieftains top runner, Bernardo Bahena. It was close but at the finish line Bahena had the best finishing kick. Ruzevick clocked 16:53, Munns 17:11, and Enowitz 17:38 over the 3 mile Morley Field course to lead the Islanders to a 23 – 33 victory. Jose Tijerina was 8th in 19:50, Josh Fink 9th in 19:57, Drew Lewis 10th in 20:02, Reid McLean 11th in 20:12 followed by Alton Smith (13th), Olivier Schmied (21:47) and Tim Bowman (16th). We were missing a couple of girls because of the usual soccer conflicts/injuries but Clairemont couldn’t field a full team of 5 runners so we won by default (15-50). Karolin Ivarsson placed 3rd in 22:38 followed by Hope Alexander (4th in 23:34), Katie Gomrick (6th in 24:55), Sarah Player (7th) and Anneka Nelson (8th). |
