Sarah Player Advances to State Track Meet in Two Events Senior CHS track phenom Sarah Player had a great outing Saturday at the CIF Track and Field Meet held at Mt. Carmel High School. The versatile Player, competing in all ‘A’ level heats, meaning she had finished among the top nine athletes in the county in the preliminaries in three different events, qualified for the state meet June 1-2 at Sacramento City College in two of her disciplines. She finished fifth in the 100-meter dash in a school record time of 12.35 seconds, which was the only event where she didn’t advance to the state finals. Player then finished second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 45.81. She also finished in a tie for fourth in the high jump with an effort of 5 feet, four inches. That is the state qualifying height in the high jump. Freshman Sallie Privett picked up her share of medals by placing fifth in the Division II 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:19.05 and was fourth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:48.16. Only four other runners in the San Diego CIF Section tried this difficult distance double and none of them were freshmen. Neisha Scales placed eighth in the Division II 100-meter dash with a time of 13.20. Ben Enowitz placed ninth in the Division II 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:21.73. |
