In his senior year in 1994 John Bakker was the best all-around athlete on the team.  He competed in relays, hurdles, running events and the pole vault establishing school records for both the pole vault and the

Carl GiesserPrevious Record Holder:
Carl Giesser 13-8 in 1964 set at Coronado High School.

Note the sawdust pit surrounded by hay bales.

Giesser went on to Kearny where he jumped 14-7.5, then to San Diego State where he went over 15'.

Here's a link to more photos supplied by Carl Giesser himself.

Previous Record Holder:
Wally Hake 12' in 1946

note: This was a pretty good vault considering there were no flex poles in 1946, only metal and bamboo. With a modern pole this record could have been a foot or more higher.
The record above was taken from a list of school records prepared by Sunday Durland in 1955. There appear to be gaps in the records from 1955 to 1994 so if anyone has information on records set during this period
