Victoria Perez

After Coronado's "Raising of the Banners" celebration in the fall of 2017 where the raise banners for the teams that won San Diego Section Championships the previous school year, a girl came up to me and said that she was coming out for track and would break a couple of school records. When I asked "which ones," she replied, "Shot and Discus." She told me her name, Victoria Perez, and that night I looked her up on the National Database of Athletic.net. Sure enough, her shot put PR at North Harrison High School in Ramsey Indiana was better than our school record, and her discus record was just a little short of our record at that time.

At our double dual meet with Mission Bay and Madison on May 3rd, 2018, she broke both the Shot Put and Discus records. Later, at the CIF Finals, she extended her shot put record out to 34' 7". She was our only female thrower in 2018.She won all our dual meets for both shot and discus, including the league finals where she was the league champ in both events.
She advanced to the CIF finals in the discus where she finished third (see podium shot to the left), and helped us win the Girls' San Diego Section Track Championship for 2018.

As a senior in 2019, she bettered both records with a 36-2 mark in the shot put at a dual meet with Madison, and a 125-5 throw at the Escondido Invite on 26 April.

Previous Record Holder: Moe Carr 118' 5"

Moe Carr's toss of 118' 5" at Hilltop in 1980 would rank among the top dozen throws in San Diego today. She also participated in the shot put and holds the 8 pound version of that record.
